China has experienced its most significant growth in science over the past thirty years, the Financial Times reports. And Russia is lagging behind all.
Thomson Reuters company had counted the articles, published in 10500 scientific journals.
Only materials of scientists from Brazil, Russia, India and China over the past thirty years were considered.
As a result, China left behind all three countries: since 1981 the number of articles written by Chinese scientists exceeds 64 times the amount of materials scientists from any other country.
In addition, 9% of the materials have a co-author from the U.S., which also indicates that Chinese are becoming more inclined to cooperate.
The Director of Research Evaluation Thomson Reuters Jonathan Adams said that if the “inspirational” growth in this area will continue, by 2020 China will challenge U.S. leadership in the production of scientific knowledge and discoveries.
Unlike China, Russia has already lost its title of scientific state.
20 years ago, our scientists produced more scientific papers than the scientists in China, India and Brazil together, then now there were fewer articles of 2008 from Russia than those from India or Brazil.
