Sonia Gandhi, the leader of Indian National Congress, strongly condemned the so-called “laws on freedom of religion”, more commonly known as the laws prohibiting the transition from one religion to another.

Currently, these laws are adopted in most states, the leadership of which belongs to the fundamental Hindu party “Bharatiya Janata Party”, – says Christian megaportal www.invictory.org with reference to Agnuz.

“The point of view of our party is well known. These laws were adopted by state authorities, despite our disagreement”, – said Gandhi.

“The laws on freedom of religion” is largely directed against Christians. Christians are constantly accused by Hindu fundamentalists in the forced conversion of representatives of most of the poor people.

Hindus themselves are also victims of the severity of the adopted laws, as the transition from one religion to another threatens with imprisonment.

The meeting of the National Commission for the Laity, which was attended by the representatives of the Christian community, was focused on the transition to another faith.

The participants discussed the threats that these laws have, and urged the central government to pay close attention to the social, economic and political situation of Christian minorities in India.

The representatives of Christian communities emphasized the importance of respecting the constitution, and added that the responsibility of central and local governments should be the protection of religious minorities, so that they did not feel abandoned.

Hamid Ansari, the head of the National Commission for the Laity, noted that the right of freedom of religion is an integral part of the multicultural Indian society.
