Motorcycle Accidents Rise In Los Angeles & Orange Counties

After a period of declining numbers, motorcycle accidents are on the rise again in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  Fatal motorcycle accidents are increasing as well.

59 percent more motorcyclists were killed in crashes in 2012 than in 2010 in Los Angeles County, California.  The increase of fatal motorcycle accidents in Orange County, CA was up 15 percent over the same time frame.

Experts are unsure what has caused the dramatic increase in deadly motorcycle accidents, but there are a few theories.  Some believe the increase can be attributed to an improving economy.

As the economy improves more people may be purchasing motorcycles.  Although motorcycle registrations have not increase enough to account for the large jump in motorcycle accidents.

Other believe lower gas prices have contributed to more people pulling their motorcycles out of the garage and hitting the roads.  Some of these riders may be “rusty” and or inexperienced which can be putting more inexperienced motorcyclists on the roads.

Regardless of the cause, it is a sobering statistic that so many more individuals are losing their lives while riding on Southern California roadways.
